Memorial Day weekend... then play

My mom reminded me that I never posted part two of Memorial Day weekend. So maybe this week I can do a little catch up. After hauling dirt much of the day on Saturday, that night we headed off to Safeco Field to see the Mariners play for Little League night. The highlight of the evening was definitely the pre-game parade.

We lined up under the stadium, outside the vendor offices and near the groundskeepers' equipment. Finally the big moment came, and we walked out onto the warning track in center field. All the little leaguers and their families get to walk around the warning track in a very long, slow parade. It must last more than an hour, since we were among the first in the "parade", and it was still going long after we finished! It is a bit unorganized - you aren't walking with your team, unless your team coordinated that in advance - and doesn't really look like a parade. I can't imagine anyone in the stands watching this for very long. But it was an awesome experience for the kids to be down on the field.

We videotaped and took lots of pictures, here are a couple.

After the parade, we got some stadium food for dinner (nachos, caramel corn, lemonade, etc.) and headed up to our seats to enjoy the game. We made it through 5 innnings before calling it a night. G loved yelling "Go Mariners!" and S now likes to check the sports section each morning to see if the Mariners won the previous day.
