Trying to get back in the habit of blogging. We had a great Thanksgiving week visit with my Mom - baby J loved having another adult playmate. S and G (and J) loved the snow that week. They made a snowman and a snow fort with a neighbor.
We also visited the Burke Museum at UW. It was a delight. First we explored the special textile exhibit. I was surprised by how interested S was in the displays - noting the different fibers used, colors, countries, etc. in the exhibit. They had a place where kids could try weaving too. We then went downstairs to check out the Pacific Islands culture section, using the kids scavenger hunt worksheet. I love these scavenger hunt sheets that some museums have -- the kids are way more excited to explore when they have a list of things to find. And of course they learn a few things along the way.
Then we headed upstairs to the geology / paleontology exhibits. G loved the mastodon. S loved this bug display that you could select a bug, have it light up, and a screen showed information about the bug. He and my mom spent 20 minutes or so trying out every insect. A long time for a kid who usually isn't that into bugs.
The kids loved the games of solitaire they played with Grandmother. It has become a tradition for every visit -- she teaches them a new game or two, and they all spend a lot of time on the floor with the cards. We had a great visit!
