Vacation Highlights

We got back last week from a great vacation at Lake Chelan. We stayed at Wapato Point. We loved the relaxing, family friendly vibe. We also loved having a condo to stay in - a kitchen and living room are essential to a good vacation. The kids loved swimming in the pool the most - we swam at least once a day, as it was right next door to our condo. S and G marveled at the 10 year old boy who could jump into the pool, while catching a football! (Who knew this was possible?) G loved to jump in, both loved piggyback rides around the pool, and practicing blowing bubbles.

We tried the VERY cold indoor pool one day - the kids loved it. Me, not so much.

The beach was great. J built a moat with an island that the kids loved playing on. S enjoyed flinging sand into the lake. G enjoyed filling her bucket. I loved sitting quietly in my chair watching the three of them play. The beach was surprisingly empty (well at least of other people, there was a small family of ducks that visited us there, and a remarkable amount of duck/goose droppings.) But even the part of the beach that was dropping-free was empty of people.

On the one day with cooler weather, we visited Banjo Creek Farms. The goats were a little too friendly for S and G, and taught the kids about head butting. S loved petting the rabbits (especially the one named Spiderman) and G loved petting the horses and watching the pig named Chaos. Everyone enjoyed watching me feed the very large Clydesdale horse. (Although J admitted later to being a bit nervous about if the horse would bite.) My hand was soooo sticky when the horse was done. Both kids wanted to go into the chicken/turkey coop. Second best to feeding the animals were the homemade cinnamon rolls our family shared as a treat after thoroughly washing all of our hands.


Other highlights: Mini golf (G thinks this means carrying her ball with her, and jumping. S thinks you use the golf club like a hook to encourage your ball on its path.) Walking up and down the ungated stairs in the condo (for S and G.) Seeing G wandering out of her room, all rumpled and sleepy after naps in the big bed (which she can climb out of.) S naming the Toyota Highlander rental car, "Hatchback." S deciding his backpack is an air pack for an astronaut, and wearing it all day. Lots of conversations that began with "Mission Control, this is Commander S. We're ready for lift off."
In between all this fun, I read the 5th Harry Potter book, finally. Too bad I didn't like it that much. The sixth was way better (read after returning home) and I'm looking forward to number seven. Yes, I know I'm a year behind. I also read The Last Chinese Chef, which was a great book. Highly recommended. J and S read lots of Calvin and Hobbes cartoons, which has introduced all sorts of new ideas to S. My least favorite? "Splatballs" (which for S are chewed up and spit out wads of toilet paper. Yuck.) My most favorite? Spaceman Spiff and the Planet Mok. So useful to be able to tell S that Moklings do... or eat... or you get the idea.
