Summer Camp Part Deux

For those of you eagerly awaiting the report of the rest of S's summer camp visitors here they are...

Wednesday - Sheriff

Thursday - Forest Fire Fighters (with Smokey the Bear) By the way, did you know that the Forest Service's trucks are light green? Kind of seafoamy? Not red? I found this to be quite odd.

Friday - Fire Fighters and Ambulance. The highlight of Friday was that at the end of their visit, they got a call, and had to leave "very quickly" (S) They used their lights and sirens!

And, we got a book with S's picture with the visiting vehicles. A great way to remember the week, long after the good fire/bad fire book has been lost. I'm sure we'll be reviewing all the safety materials often.

Now for all of you who are hoping to sign up for Rescue Heroes camp next year, a few words to the wise... First, remember that this preschool has a sandbox and mud pit. Which in the summer is a dirt pit. Which will stick quite nicely to that sunscreen you applied to your child's face. If you are lucky, your child will come home looking like he has on a full body dirt mask. And then refuse to have his picture taken all dirty, giving you no blog-worthy evidence.

Second, all this discussion of needing rescuing, needing ID badges, and when to call 911 may cause a bit of anxiety for your camper. As in, your camper may no longer be willing to fall asleep by himself. He may wake up during the night quite concerned and need consoling, multiple times, especially between 1 and 3 am. He may become concerned about being left or lost. And a whole week without afternoon quiet time may cause some sleep deprivation issues that turn into excessive whining, fussing, and meltdowns between 5 and 7 pm.

Also note, neither of these warnings come on the camp sign up sheets, so you'll have to remember them for yourself next March when you are in line outdoors with all the other crazy moms at 8am in the wind and rain trying to get your camper signed up! Hopefully I will remember this next March! And next summer...
