We've tried to make the most of the warm days this summer. Two mid-July outings were low tide at a beach on the Sound, and the science center for Danger Science, an outdoor demonstration of explosions.
We went to the beach with a couple of other families. Some kids and parents went off to explore the tide pools, while others dug big holes and hauled water up to the digging area. We stayed for 3+ hours and had a wonderful time. This is my favorite area beach - real sand, big beach, decent bathrooms, AND plentiful, close and free parking.
We hit the science center later in the month to see Danger Science. For the final bit of the show the host filled a 2 liter bottle with liquid nitrogen, and then dropped it into the metal barrel of water. When the 2 liter bottle exploded, the water shot out of the barrel, soaking those nearby. The host warned that you could get wet in the area we were sitting in. The big kids and I moved. J doubted, and got he and baby J (in the stroller) wet, wet, wet. Good thing it was a warm day! After Danger Science, we did the indoor exhibits - the butterfly exhibit was a big hit, as were the animatronic dinosaurs. Oh that brown butterfly with the big fake eye was a beautiful bright blue on the inside.
