Photos of the flood

We've taken some photos of the flooding. First, the falls comparison over the past few weeks:

January 6, before the flood


January 8, morning after the river crested near us. Note that the splash is about half the height of the falls. With all that mist it's hard to sense how tall the falls really are.

And now a brief tour of the area...


The pond where we buy our Christmas trees - about a mile from our house. Usually we don't have to wear waders to choose a tree. And usually the trees aren't floating around in a pile.

Bridge over the river downstream from the falls. Those bushes sticking up out of the water? Those are mature trees.


Interesting how there is a lake on the road, and a different lake on the farm fields to the left. The water was coming over the road from the right, and then meeting the water from the left.


There's a road under there?

These big tall trees are in 8-10 feet of water - there is a significant hill here, and then a nice big grassy field to play in next to the riverbank. We had the kids pictures taken in this park nearly two years ago - the ones where they are walking through dandelions together. This park is a couple miles from our house.

The amazing thing is that these pictures were not taken at the river crest - more like 12 -15 hours afterwards. Imagine what it looked like then.
